Qatar Charity (QC) will hold the first humanitarian forum in support of Palestine from October 29 to 31 in Doha.

The forum, to be held under the slogan “Palestine, we are all with you”, will see the participation of a number of international, regional and local organisations and institutions.

The event aims to highlight the needs of the Palestinian people, attract support for the funding and implementation of quality humanitarian programmes and projects and launch a number of strategic initiatives, according to a statement.

The projects and programmes will offer a variety of support to Palestinians who have suffered decades of poverty and unemployment as a result of the repeated occupation, siege and aggression, the statement adds.

The forum will include a number of working papers and panel discussions, a charitable evening, a solidarity rally and an interactive photo gallery capturing the suffering of the Palestinian people.

It is hoped that the forum will result in the creation of a shared vision of humanitarian work in Palestine, strengthening the network of relations between humanitarian organisations, donors and beneficiaries; the launch of a range of strategic initiatives to meet the needs and rights of Palestinians; open up opportunities for humanitarian organisations and institutions to identify these needs; focus the priorities of organisations working in Palestine; and attract support for the funding of humanitarian projects and programmes.

The initiatives include support for education, rehabilitation of Gaza, fraternity “Mu’akhah”, capacity building of individuals and institutions, Al Aqsa Waqf, and childhood and motherhood support.

The forum will seek, during the charitable evening, to fund a number of programmes and projects, including relief and rehabilitation in Gaza, educational initiatives, health programmes, empowerment initiatives and programmes for the city of Jerusalem and Al Aqsa Mosque.

The conference is also expected to discuss a number of working papers presented by a group of researchers and specialists.

Those expected to take part in the forum include representatives of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation, Islamic Development Bank, United Nations organisations, Gulf and international humanitarian organisations, Palestinian humanitarian organisations and relevant bodies in Qatar.

The first and second days of the forum will be devoted to an opening session, workshops, presentation of working papers, initiatives and the charity evening. The third day will see a special festival, which will be held in Katara – the Cultural Village and include film screenings, choir performances and drama.

QC has two offices in Palestine - one in the Gaza Strip and another in West Bank. It is in the process of completing a number of development projects in the Gaza Strip at a cost of over QR90mn.
