Qatar Charity’s (QC) Gaza Strip office has signed an agreement with the Islamic University to pay students’ tuition fees.

The agreement was signed by QC’s Gaza office deputy director Mohamed Abu Halloub and Islamic University president Dr Kamalin Shaath.

Halloub said the initiative, which involves the payment of tuition fees for students of the Islamic University, comes as an extension of QC’s relief projects implemented in the Gaza Strip after the conflict this summer.

He pointed out that the project is valued at QR689,485 and will benefit 264 students.

“The project comes as people of the Gaza Strip are suffering difficult circumstances after the recent aggression,” Halloub added. “The project has made a significant contribution to helping students continue their
education.”

QC is carrying out a number of projects, including several that support the education sector, which is considered a priority because of its significant impact on human development.

Dr Shaath praised the co-operation between the university and QC, stressing that access to education has become increasingly difficult in the Gaza Strip in light of the blockade and aggression, which targeted a number of educational institutions,
including schools.

QC’s educational projects in the Gaza Strip are valued at over QR23mn and include projects to rehabilitate classrooms at Al Aqsa University, equipping public schools with solar energy and rehabilitating science laboratories in 60 government schools, in addition to encouraging innovative research in community service and link it to the market.
