Nowhere the rich and colourful tradition of Germany in making swords is as well revealed as at a rather small space at the venue of the Milipol exhibition.

Swords that adorn the shelves of Weyersberg Kirschbaum at the Doha exposition have drawn large number of visitors in the first two days as each of the pieces on display is in a class of its own.

“The handmade swords that we make at our 136-year-old company’s own facility have customers from almost all parts of the world,” said Sassoum Ndiaye, a company official.

Swords are of different kinds and uses and are widely used in diplomatic circles, military, courts, palace, and ceremonies. “We make them only against orders that we receive from our clients in internal security forces, military, courts, ministries and palaces,” said Ndiaye.

Even though machine-made swords are made in many places all over the world Weyersberg’s expertise in delivering handmade pieces has made it a popular name with customers. “Our craftsmen spend several weeks to create all these designs that we have exhibited here,” said the company official.

Besides the swords that the German company makes their envelope openers are also in great demand among individual customers.

According to the manufacturer, its swords adorn the walls of many houses in this region where swords are very much part of traditions and history. “Some of our most decorative pieces have been sold to the affluent customers in the region, including in Qatar,” added Ndiaye.
