HE the Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the Supreme Education Council (SEC) Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi met in Doha yesterday with the visiting Kyrgyzstan Minister of Education Kanat Sadykov and his accompanying delegation. Talks during the meeting focused on aspects of co-operation between the two countries in educational areas and ways to enhance them.

Following his visit to a number of independent schools, the Kyrgyzstan minister said that his visit to Qatar was aimed at signing an agreement with the SEC on educational co-operation.

“We expect the well-equipped schools that we visited today will be a model for schools in Kyrgyzstan,” he said, commending the availability of the sate-of-the-art facilities in these schools. This indicates that they attach great importance to science, technology and foreign languages, he added.

The Kyrgyzstan minister arrived in Doha on Saturday night on a three-day working visit to Qatar. He will visit today Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, Qatar University and Aspire Academy for Sports Excellence.

 

Greetings to Malta and Armenia

 

HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani sent yesterday cables of congratulations to Maltese President Marie Louise Preca on her country’s National Day. HH the Emir and HE the Prime Minister also sent cables of congratulations to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on his country’s National Day.

 

Readiness for rainy season

 

The Department of Public Services at Doha Municipality yesterday held a co-ordination meeting with the Drainage Networks Operation and Maintenance Department at the Public Works Authority (Ashghal) to discuss the readiness of the two departments for the rainy season and co-ordination between them in this area.

 

Forum to discuss smart transport systems

 

New plans for traffic safety through implementation of  smart transport systems will be discussed at the ITS & Road Safety Forum to be held in Doha tomorrow.

Local Arabic daily Al-Sharq said that the forum  will discuss new plans for traffic safety through effective participation by the Traffic Department in the Ministry of Interior and  the Public Works Authority (Ashghal).

The new plans relate to the smart transport systems and policies which encourage secure driving and safe designing of the networks of transportation  and roads. The policies will also  focus on raising the awareness of motorists and pedestrians.

The third annual forum of smart transport systems and traffic safety includes programmes which are being executed in co-operation with the national traffic safety committee. The participants in the forum include  strategy partners, representatives of government authorities, emergency service providers and solution providers who work on reducing road traffic  accident deaths in Qatar.

The Ministry of Interior and Ashghal are supporting the  forum which will be held today and tomorrow.

 

QC, Silatech sign
deal to back Arab
entrepreneurs

 

Qatar Charity and Silatech signed in Doha yesterday an agreement to support young Arab entrepreneurs, based on a memorandum of understanding signed in 2013 to strengthen co-operation in fund-raising campaigns, technology and technical assistance fields.

The agreement was signed by Qatar Charity CEO Yousef bin Ahmad al-Kuwari and Silatech CEO Tarik Mohamed Yousef. Under the agreement, Qatar Charity is to finance projects worth QR1,000,852 in six Arab countries, including Palestine. The two entities will work together to support Arab young entrepreneurs through Silatech “Narwi” micro-giving platform.
