A young Qatari employee of Qatar Shell, Nasser al-Taweel, has earned the Legal Practice Course (LPC) certificate with distinction, qualifying him to train as a solicitor in England and Wales.

The LPC is regulated through the Solicitor’s Regulation Authority of England and Wales and provides a bridge between academic study and training at a law firm. Course modules delve into various topics, including corporate law, tax law, insolvency law, property law as well as civil and criminal law, among other areas.

Nasser, who joined Qatar Shell as a legal counsel in February 2011, said his decision to pursue the LPC was driven by his desire to take on a challenge and prove his thorough understanding and application of legal knowledge.

He is thrilled to have passed the course and join a small group of Qataris who have attained the prestigious international qualification.

“The Legal Practice Course for England and Wales is highly respected and is widely recognised in many countries. The main feature is practice and it focuses on your ability to apply legal knowledge rather than merely remembering or quoting it,” he said.

Nasser is grateful for Qatar Shell’s commitment towards developing the potential and expertise of Qatari employees, believing that the support he received from his direct line managers was “unequivocal” and played a major role in his achievement.

His achievement is all the more remarkable as he did it on a part-time basis while on special assignments in the The Hague and London.

Wael Sawan, managing director and chairman of Qatar Shell Companies, said: “We are extremely proud of Nasser al-Taweel for having achieved such an outstanding result in the Legal Practice Course. He has worked exceptionally hard to accomplish his goal and we are delighted to play a role in his future development and success.”
