The general monitoring section of the Municipal Monitoring Department, Al Rayyan Municipality, has warned car showrooms against displaying vehicles on the road, local Arabic daily Al Sharq has reported. |
The municipality recently sent notices to the owners of car showrooms on Salwa Road, informing them about the need to remove vehicles displayed in front of the showrooms within a week. The municipality warned that they would be charged a fine of QR10,000 for every vehicle displayed outside the showroom, the report states.
On their part, the showroom owners expressed resentment at “not being given sufficient time” to search for alternative locations. Arguing that the showrooms can accommodate only a limited number of vehicles, they said implementation of this decision could even result in the closure of some showrooms that depend on empty spaces in front of the premises to display vehicles that are for sale, according to the report.
Further, the owners held that preventing them from displaying vehicles in front of their showrooms would lead to losses for them, the report adds.
In this regard, a car trader has called for the establishment of an integrated vehicle market with the support of the State, businessmen or a major company. This will help organise the car market and provide relief to business operators from the burden of increasing rents for showrooms, he argued in the report.
