Qatar Red Crescent (QRC) has allocated QR2.9mn through its Disaster Response Fund for the urgent relief to affected families and will implement QR7.355mn worth of projects in Central Africa, according to QRC secretary general Saleh bin Ali al-Mohannadi.

Al-Mohannadi received Haqqar Mohamed Ahmed, president of the Islamic Daawa and Relief Organisation in Chad and former adviser to the president of the Central African Republic, to discuss QRC efforts for the relief to conflict affected victims in
Central Africa.

This is the second visit by Ahmed to QRC headquarters after the one he made during the April 9 launch of QRC campaign “Save your brothers in Central Africa”. The conference came against the backdrop of the humanitarian appeal launched by QRC to save internally displaced peoples (IDPs) in Central Africa in March.

The QRC secretary general said: “A QRC team visited the Central African Republic in April in order to assess the needs and to exchange information with many partners on the ground. The team managed to record the developments of the tragic situation of those affected, as full Muslim neighbourhoods are under siege and are exposed to constant attacks.”

Commenting on the humanitarian situation in different parts of Central Africa, Ahmed said: “The humanitarian situation in our country is no more but a tragedy; the situation of refugees and IDPs is getting worse and their problems and needs are increasing a day after another. The increase in their number has given rise to famine as a result of lack of food.”
