Over 100 applications have already been received for Qatar University (QU)’s PhD and Masters engineering
programmes.

This was revealed by Prof Abdelmagid Hamouda, College of Engineering (CENG) associate dean for Research and Graduate Studies, at the recent Open Day for graduate programmes.

The deadlines for applications are May 1 and May 15, respectively.

The Open Day was an opportunity for the college to orient the 100-plus prospective engineers on the graduate programmes and their requirements.

Attending the event were CENG dean Dr Rashid Alammari, associate dean for Development and Industrial Relations Dr Saud Ghani, associate dean for Academic Affairs Prof Adel Gastli, co-ordinator of Research and Graduate Studies Dr Mohamed Arselene Ayari, department heads and faculty members.

Prospective applicants learned about the Masters programmes in Computing, Urban Planning & Design, Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering, as well as the PhD programmes offered in Engineering - Architecture, Urban Planning, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial and Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Management, Environmental Engineering, and Material Science and Engineering.

The duration of the Masters programmes is 2-4 years, while that of the PhD programmes is 4-8 years.

Prof Hamouda noted that the large number of applicants for the degree programmes is due to the quality of CENG programmes, which are highly recognised by industry, and the expertise of qualified faculty from all over the world.

“This event comes as a response to the industry’s high demand for engineering graduates, which is reflected in Qatar’s booming industry, and its need for qualified and
experienced personnel,” he said.
