HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani and Italy’s Premier Enrico Letta chaired a round of official talks between Qatar and Italy at the Emiri Diwan yesterday.
The two sides reviewed scopes of existing co-operation between the two countries and means of enhancing them in all areas. They also discussed a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
The session was attended by a number of Qatari ministers and members of the delegation accompanying Premier Enrico Letta.
Following the talks, the Prime Minister and Interior Minister hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of the Italian prime minister and the accompanying delegation.
Later the Italian Prime Minister visited the Museum of Islamic Arts.
Speaking to QNA he said that artefacts displayed at the museum reflect the various arts present in the Islamic world throughout the centuries.
The Italian prime minister said that the museum provided a valuable experience to visitors and admired the artefacts exhibited there.
On the scope of cultural co-operation between Qatar and Italy, Premier Letta said that the two countries enjoy strong ties that would encourage co-operation in the cultural field. He revealed that the two governments were in talks to construct a building in Venice that would later be turned into a museum.
Director of Protocol and International Relations at Qatar Museums Authority, Rashid al-Hajri presented a book about the museum to the Italian prime minister.
HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada, Italian ambassador in Qatar Guido De Santis and Qatar’s Charge d’Affaires at the Qatari embassy in Italy Mishaal bin Mohamed Ajaj al-Kubaisi accompanied the Italian Prime Minister during the visit.
Later yesterday afternoon Prime Minister Enrico Letta left Doha, wrapping a two-day visit to Qatar.
He was seen off at Doha International Airport by HE al-Sada, Italian ambassador Guido De Santis and Qatar’s Charge d’Affaires at the Qatari embassy in Italy.
