Oxy Qatar principal partner of film festival

Occidental Petroleum of Qatar Ltd (Oxy Qatar) has joined hands with Doha Film Institute (DFI) to become the principal partner of the Ajyal Youth Film Festival which will be held at Katara from November 26 to 30. Steve Kelly, president and general manager of Oxy Qatar, said: “As an active contributor to Qatar’s economic growth, Oxy Qatar continues to reaffirm its commitment to the community. Our partnership with Doha Film Institute for the inaugural Ajyal Youth Film Festival was developed with the goal of benefiting families and the local community by promoting cultural life.”Abdulaziz al-Khater, chief executive officer of DFI, said: “We would like to thank Oxy Qatar for their generous support towards strengthening Qatar’s creative industries. We are excited to be collaborating with Oxy Qatar and believe this is the start of a long-standing and fruitful partnership between our two organisations.”Ajyal invites generations to come together to discuss cinema through events that inspire creative interaction, opening up a fun, collaborative environment where young people can express themselves.

 

Sony official visits NU-Q, meets pupils

Students of Northwestern University in Qatar (NU-Q) discussed their experiences in technology and new media with Shoji Nemoto, executive vice president and corporate executive officer of Sony Corporation.

Nemoto, who is in Qatar, to explore opportunities to contribute to Qatar’s media industry, heard from students on their work to design and communicate messages during their studies at NU-Q as well as their internships at leading media organisations such as Al Jazeera Network and The Economist.

Nemoto said: “I personally believe as someone who oversees the research and development at Sony that diversity drives innovation. I am very encouraged by the enthusiasm and passion I see among young people in Qatar to drive the new media industry, and am looking forward to working with them to convey experiences across continents, and to integrating hardware, entertainment and story-telling.”

Nemoto was accompanied on his tour of NU-Q by Dean and CEO Everette Dennis and Bader Darwish, CEO, Darwish Holding.

 

Cultural forum to hold youth festival

Keralite cultural forum Sanskriti is holding on November 15 the offstage part of the inter-school youth festival, organised as part of its 15th anniversary celebration.
