Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) yesterday hosted Sophie, the Countess of Wessex, at its Visitors’ Centre.
A welcoming committee received the Countess and her delegation, who are travelling with the sight-saving charity - Orbis Flying Eye Hospital.
Her visit in conjunction with Orbis is part of the organisation’s goodwill tour to build on the crucial support that enables it to expand its sight-saving efforts throughout Asia, Africa and Latin America.
The Countess is eager to build upon the strong partnerships and alliances forged last year when Orbis made its inaugural visit to Qatar. Her mission to raise the standards of healthcare globally is in line with QF’s ongoing efforts to foster valuable collaborations and find solutions to meet international healthcare challenges.
As a long-standing patron of global initiatives to prevent and treat blindness among underprivileged communities around the world, the Countess is leading a series of events and meetings in Qatar in order to engage the philanthropic community.
The Countess’s delegation was first shown a presentation that outlined the vision and mission of QF, after which they were introduced to the foundation’s many educational initiatives, community development plans and scientific research programmes.
During the visit, the Countess was also briefed on QF’s various sustainability initiatives and climate action solutions.
After the presentation, she was shown an impressive 3D scale model of the buildings and construction projects that are under way at Qatar Foundation.
The Countess of Wessex expressed her steadfast commitment to raising international awareness about the prevention and treatment of blindness, which affects approximately 1.5mn children around the world.
As the visit to QF drew to a close, the Countess signed the visitors’ book and was later accompanied on a tour of Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar.
