HE the Minister of Energy and Industry Dr Mohamed bin Saleh al-Sada will lead the recognition rites for the recipients of the Qatar Oil & Gas Industry HSE Excellence Awards 2013 to be held at the Grand Hyatt Doha today.

Launched in 2010 and administered by Qatar Petroleum’s Corporate Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) Department, the HSE Excellence Awards aim to promote a positive and enhanced HSE culture among QP’s business units, joint venture companies, and contractors.

The main objective of the awards is to recognise companies that are implementing outstanding programmes and initiatives to achieve excellence in managing the range of occupation health and safety risks as well as environmental impacts on day-to-day operations.

“The awards are considered valuable in further enhancing the level of HSE consciousness among the industry’s workers, in promoting continual improvement in the HSE performance of companies, and in ensuring that the industry’s activities do not compromise the safety of employees and the local community or have any negative impact on the environment,” QP said.

During the awards ceremony, 10 winners from QP’s operations, joint venture companies, and contractors will receive a trophy and a “Certificate of HSE Excellence” from al-Sada, who is also QP’s chairman and managing director.

The event will also be attended by senior QP officials, top management of oil and gas companies operating in Qatar, industry professionals, and other guests.
