RasGas last week delivered the 1,000th liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo to India’s Petronet LNG under the long-term sales and purchase agreement (SPA) between them.
The 1,000th LNG cargo delivered to Petronet was loaded on board LNG vessel ‘Disha’ at Ras Laffan Port late last month. Coincidentally, the same ship also loaded the inaugural LNG cargo on January 25, 2004 under the same SPA on its maiden voyage from Ras Laffan Port to Petronet LNG Dahej Terminal.
“This successful delivery of the 1,000th LNG cargo marks a significant milestone in our long-standing relationship with Petronet and comes as a further testimony of RasGas being a safe and reliable supplier of LNG jointly with our partner Petronet for the Indian market. As an important supplier of LNG to India, RasGas will continue to provide its support in meeting India’s growing economy and demand for cleaner energy in the form of LNG,” said Khalid Sultan R al-Kuwari, RasGas’ chief marketing and shipping officer.
Celebrating the delivery of the 1,000th LNG cargo, RasGas hosted a special ceremony onboard the LNG vessel and presented the ship master captain Rakesh Jhang and his crew with a memento to mark the special occasion. The event was attended by captain Khaled Djebbar, and captain Sreenivas Penumarti from the RasGas Marketing and Shipping Group.
The long-term LNG sale and purchase agreement between RasGas and Petronet was signed in July, 1999 for 7.5mn tonnes per year (MTA) for 25 years. RasGas has delivered in excess of 9mn tonnes of LNG to India in 2014.
Petronet currently operates the Dahej and Kochi LNG terminals on India’s west and south coasts each with a capacity of 10mn tonnes per year and 5mn tonnes per year respectively. Petronet meets approximately 30% of the India’s gas demand.
