Wimbledon Tennis Championship: Alcaraz continues title defense with round of 16 qualification

Spanish tennis star Carlos Alcaraz, currently ranked World No. 2, continued his successful title defense at the Wimbledon Championships, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season, by advancing today to the Round of 16.Alcaraz secured his place in the next round after a hard-fought third-round victory over Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff (ranked 125th in the world), winning in four sets with scores of 6-1, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.This win marks Alcaraz's 21st consecutive victory at Wimbledon. His last loss at the tournament came in the fourth round in 2022 against Italy's Jannik Sinner. Alcaraz will now face Russia's Andrey Rublev (ranked 14th globally), who advanced after defeating France's Adrian Mannarino in straight sets (7-5, 6-2, 6-3).Also advancing to the Round of 16 is American Taylor Fritz (World No. 5), who defeated Spain's Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (ranked 26th) in four sets (6-4, 6-3, 6-7, 6-1). Fritz will meet Australia's Jordan Thompson (ranked 44th) in the next round.Meanwhile, American Ben Shelton (World No. 10) also booked his spot in the Round of 16 with a straight-sets win over Australia's Rinky Hijikata, with scores of 6-2, 7-5, 6-4.
