Qatar’s Abdulqader wins shot put bronze at Paralympics

Abdulqader (11.36m) finished in third place after Jordan’s Ahmed Hindi won gold, and Morocco’s Izz Eddin al-Nouiri claimed silver.Abdulqader is the first Qatari to win a Paralympic medal in the country’s history having bagged silver in the same event at the 2016 Rio Games.He also won gold at the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, and the gold medal in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games.On Thursday, another Qatari shot putter Sara Masoud achieved a season’s best of 5.42m. She is the first Qatari woman to win a Paralympic medal, having won silver in the F33 shot put competition at Rio. She had also won silver in the 2017 IAAF World Championships in London, gold in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games, and silver in the 2018 Asian Paralympic Games in Jakarta.HE President of Qatar Paralympic Committee Sheikh Abdulrahman bin Saud al-Thani expressed delight on the achievements.He congratulated the Qatari delegation participating in Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, and dedicated the accomplishment to the wise leadership of the country.For his part, Executive Director of Qatar Paralympic Committee, Amir al-Mulla, expressed pleasure with the accomplishment, noting that Abdulqader managed to achieve the bronze medal in the shot put in Tokyo despite the strong competition and his injury.
