Wathnan Racing, trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey James Doyle were not content with just two wins on the day, as they secured a third in the day’s feature, with Supercooled winning the Thoroughbred Derby Trial on his Qatar debut.On Thursday, at the Al Uqda Racecourse, under a brilliant ride by Doyle, the four-year-old colt of Lope De Vega, made his challenge in the final few strides, in what seemed like an impossible task, and got the better of his nearest rival to win by a head in a thrilling finish. Abdulla Rashid al-Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners.Earlier in the day, the trio of owner, trainer and jockey won the back to back races. First, War Boy maintained the good impression, following his placed debut two weeks ago. The three-year-old colt made it in the final stages of the 1400m Local Thoroughbred Trial and landed the spoils comfortably albeit the strong challenge of his rivals.Wathnan Racing along with trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey Doyle were quickly back in the winners’ enclosure, having recorded a quick-fire double with Divana Chica winning the Purebred Arabian Oaks Trial. The four-year-old filly showed impressive determination in the final strides of the 2100m contest and prevailed comfortably.The colours of Wathnan Racing along with trainer Alban de Mieulle and jockey James Doyle were quickly back in the winners’ enclosure, having recorded a quick-fire double with Divana Chica (Majd Al Arab) winning the Purebred Arabian Oaks Trial.The four-year-old filly showed impressive determination in the final strides of the 2100m contest and prevailed cosily. In the penultimate race of the day, Al Shaqab Racing’s homebred Afjan took the Purebred Arabian Derby Trial, getting the better of his stablemate and half-brother Al Zwair by a neck.Jockey Faleh Bughanaim timed his challenge to perfection, guiding his mount to come fast and pip his rivals in the final strides, and giving the Al Shaqab Racing and trainer Jean de Mieulle a one-two in the 2100m race.His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al-Thani’s homebred Aneed Al Shahania remained unbeaten on his second career start.
