The Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) and the Department of Statistics — Malaysia (DOSM) have agreed to boost co-operation in the field of building smart databases using machine learning, and artificial intelligence.This came during the visit of the Planning and Statistics Authority delegation, headed by PSA president's assistant Mohamed bin Abdulaziz al-Nuaimi to the DOSM, in order to review their national experience in building the central statistical database, learn about the data sources and the technology used in data storage and processing.Al-Nuaimi praised the Malaysian Statistics Department for providing the unique opportunity for the PSA experts to learn from the Malaysian experience related to building and managing statistical databases, and to benefit from the Malaysian experience in building a business register that includes economic data for operating establishments.The Qatari delegation was briefed on the existing preparations to benefit from big data as a new source of official statistics, which is characterised by the huge volume, diversity and availability.The agreement between the Qatari and Malaysian parties comes to activate co-operation in the field of building smart databases and analysing their outputs using data science, machine learning and artificial intelligence, in order to accelerate the completion of national projects, especially the third national development strategy projects, and to provide investors and academic researchers with the necessary data for their work to help make sound decisions.The Planning and Statistics Authority is making continuous efforts to build a national central statistical database in multiple stages, based on analysing the current situation, establishing national partnerships, and agreeing on the role of national partners in building this national work.
