On the sidelines of the ongoing 32nd Doha International Book Fair (DIBF), Qatar Charity is holding several training workshops for adults.Among those held so far are 'Reading a Story from Qatari Heritage' by Noura al-Rumaihi and 'Book and Child Creativity' by Munira Saad al-Rumaihi.Since the DIBF is coinciding with the month of Dhul-Hijjah, Noura al-Rumaihi chose to shed light on Haj stories in the past, starting with the method of travel and the dangers surrounding it, all the way to the return of pilgrims to Qatar, where they are greeted by their families at the border with dates and traditional Qatari food.A workshop on 'How does reading affect a child’s upbringing and academic path, and how do we choose books for age groups?' by Munira Saad al-Rumaihi saw her talking about the role of parents in encouraging children to read books."I am very happy to co-operate with Qatar Charity in this workshop, I sent a message to parents not to link reading to children as a duty, but to turn reading into an enjoyable time,” she said.Participants in the workshop confirmed that the knowledge they gained will be utilised in interactions with their children. Dania al-Haj said: "I benefited a lot from this workshop, and it drew my attention that reading to children is not only before they go to sleep. This workshop changed many concepts and beliefs."Nagham al-Amin said: "I thank Qatar Charity for presenting this workshop, which provided me with ways to encourage children to read, and I will work on applying them with my children."
