Under its development strategy in underdeveloped countries, Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) pays special attention to the socioeconomic empowerment of vulnerable people, such as widows, orphans, people with disabilities, and school/university students.Towards the goals of reducing poverty and pursuing sustainable development, QRCS has said it seeks to help displaced and refugee families/individuals to help themselves and attain self-dependence, instead of passively waiting for assistance.Apart from starting productive enterprises and creating jobs, QRCS’s economic empowerment interventions involve supporting education and sponsoring families with orphans and widows for certain periods, until they can change their own conditions from poverty to self-sufficiency, a press statement notes.During 2023, QRCS plans to implement six education and sponsorship projects in Afghanistan, Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Somalia and Gaza for the benefit of 17,058 people, at a total cost of QR6,270,070.
