The General Directorate of Endowments at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has announced its continued support for Qatar Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Needs (QSRSN) to purchase prosthetic devices, wheelchairs and other items for the benefit of about 1,000 limited-income beneficiaries with mobility, speech, hearing and visual disabilities, as well as cases of autism, sponsored by the directorate's fund for patients' care.This was announced by Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed bin Ghanem al-Thani, director-general of the General Department of Endowments, at a press conference.He stressed the importance of the historical role of the Islamic Waqf Foundation in adopting social responsibility and community participation, and helping the needy and people with special needs to overcome their suffering, in pursue of the motto 'Endowments are a Societal Partnership'."Projects and partnerships with various parties concerned, including Qatar Society for the Rehabilitation of Special Needs, have seen many achievements,” he said, adding that the aid will help the beneficiaries buy the devices they need.For his part, member of the QSRSN Board of Directors Talib Afifa extended thanks and appreciation for the endowment support, pointing that the relationship between the endowments and the parties concerned with people with disabilities is old and well-established, as reflected in many projects, programmes and assistance that have been directed for the benefit of persons with special needs.The endowment fund for patients care is one of the main six endowment funds. It was established in pursuit of the historical role of health endowments in Islamic history.The fund is also one of the forms of community participation in healthcare through assisting needy patients; co-operating with the competent authorities to conduct joint health programmes; holding educational training courses in the health field; and utilising various media vehicles to spread a health culture among the members of society.
