Qatar Charity has allocated an initial $1 million for emergency assistance to Yemeni refugees who have fled their homes amid escalating hostilities.The International Organization for Migration said violence along Yemen's western coast had displaced over 85,000 people inside the country and forced more than 2,000, mostly women and children, to seek safety in Djibouti.A Qatar Charity statement said the urgent package would focus on meeting the most pressing basic needs of affected families, who undertook what it described as "perilous journeys" to reach safety along Djibouti's northern coast.The package includes emergency shelter and essential non-food items, hot meals and ready-to-eat food assistance, safe drinking water, primary healthcare services, support for water, sanitation and hygiene services, and nutritional support for mothers and children.The agency added that the move aims to strengthen support for host areas and communities facing mounting pressure because of the influx of refugees.It said the intervention was being implemented in coordination with the relevant authorities and humanitarian partners to ensure that assistance reaches the most vulnerable families as quickly as possible.One of the largest humanitarian and development organizations in the world, Qatar Charity provides life-saving assistance to those hit by conflicts, persecution and natural disasters and create durable solutions for poverty using sustainable development programs in social welfare, water and sanitation, education, nutrition and economic empowerment.
