Qatar aspires to milestones at CISM World Military Parachuting Championship
Qatar’s parachuting team is competing in the CISM World Military Parachuting Championship.
The event got underway in Slovakia and runs through August 23, with squads from 33 countries taking part.
The Qatar team is competing alongside the Al-Hadaf team, comprising Mohammed al-Marri in the senior individual competition, Abdulaziz Abdullah, Khalid Shajaa, Saleh al-Obaidi and Mohammed al-Attas in the team competition, along with Ali al-Yafei and Saleh al-Karbi in the junior individual competition.
The team aims to mount a strong challenge at the tournament and further bolster their record of achievements after winning numerous gold, silver and bronze medals.
They likewise intend to set world records, chiefly the Al-Hadaf team's entry into the Guinness World Records for the world's largest night parachute interlocking formation.
The team held a preparatory camp in Slovakia ahead of the championship, aiming to raise the players' technical and physical readiness and help them acclimatise to the competition environment before taking on the global event.
Qatar Air Sports Committee secretary-general Captain Hazza Hamad al-Attiyah said that participation in this tournament represents a significant milestone for the Qatar team and poses a major challenge, while simultaneously providing an opportunity to pit themselves against the world's best teams and showcase the players' capabilities.
Capt al-Attiyah said that the team had prepared well for the tournament, and expressed the hope that they would deliver a performance befitting Qatar's name and continue the outstanding results achieved by the parachuting team over the past years.
He stressed that the achievements secured by the Qatar team, including the setting of new world records, underscore the significant development witnessed by the sport of parachuting in Qatar. – QNA
