Lantern Festival lights up Al Bidda Park in Qatar-first cultural showcase
Qatar’s newest immersive experience, the Lantern Festival, is set to welcome visitors today at Al Bidda Park, featuring an array of glowing installations, interactive displays, cultural performances, and family-friendly activities.
"It is the first time that a Lantern Festival is happening here in Qatar. We are very proud of being the organiser of this and we have partnered with a well-known Chinese firm that specialises in doing lanterns and lantern festivals in China and around the world.
"We have more than 400 lanterns that have been placed in this area of 55,000 sq m. It's a good family-friendly atmosphere,” Safe Flight Solutions chief executive Hassan al-Mousawi told Gulf Times on the sidelines of a media preview yesterday. He said that 28 craftsmen worked for a month in preparing the venue.
Organisers noted that this large-scale event, running until March 28, is intended to be a warm, family-friendly celebration that combines creativity, culture, and community.
"The weather is fantastic. The park is very good. We hope that our community here in Qatar and our visitors are going to be coming here and enjoying the festival,” Capt. al-Mousawi said.
This unique festival offers Qatar residents and visitors the opportunity to explore the various sections such as the Legends of Light, which features lantern sculptures inspired by folklore and cultural tales; The Glow Gardens, where thousands of lights resemble a living garden; The Cultural Courtyard, which comes to life every day with music, dance, and storytelling; while children can have hands-on fun in the Family Play Zone. Visitors are encouraged to stay and enjoy the evening by the festive atmosphere created by food stalls and an artisans' market.
According to the organisers, the event also offers an inexpensive and unforgettable night out, with early-bird tickets costing QR35 for adults and QR20 for children.
