QNL to hold conference on combating illicit trafficking of cultural property

Qatar National Library (QNL) will organise the 4th Doha Conference on Combating the Illicit Trafficking of Cultural Property — Crisis Preparedness and Cultural Heritage Protection: Prevention to Recovery, on Sunday.The four-day conference, which runs until Sept 24, is held in partnership with Unesco's Regional Office for the Gulf States and Yemen, and the embassies of the US, France, and Italy in Doha.As part of QNL's Himaya programme, this year's edition will address the growing challenges facing cultural heritage in the region. The conference will serve as a leading platform for strengthening institutional readiness and enhancing regional and international co-operation across all stages of crises.The conference will address several issues, including: Global challenges and the role of legal and ethical frameworks, as well as relevant international conventions; Governance of cultural heritage in the context of crises and illicit trafficking; Pre-crisis strategies: risk assessment, emergency planning, and preventive documentation; Crisis response: cultural first aid, damage documentation, and international cooperation; Post-crisis recovery: restitution of looted property and the role of museums, archives, and libraries; Case studies and successful experiences from the Arab world and beyond.
