The Community Sports League by the Sheikh Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud Islamic Cultural Centre (Fanar) at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) is witnessing wide acceptance from the expatriate communities. According to a statement from Awqaf, members of different expatriate communities are taking part in the league. The league combines entertainment and educational activities that enhance communication with the local community and familiarise them with its culture and identity.The programme lasts for one month and is held once a year for each of the most popular games among the participating communities. The league is held in an exciting sporting atmosphere that reflects the widespread popularity of these games among members of different communities. The league also includes educational activities aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and connecting participants with local culture and the values of Qatari society.This event is part of Fanar’s efforts to organise an annual league for the most popular sports among communities. It includes a basketball league for the Filipino community, football for the African community, volleyball for the Nepalese community and cricket for the Indian and Sri Lankan communities.
