The handicraft centre at Souq Waqif has won the admiration and appreciation of Western tourists, who see it as a window into authentic Qatari heritage and provides them with a glimpse of the past life of the country.Speaking to local Arabic daily Arrayah, they said that the handicraft market there is full of creative and artistic items that focus on the local and regional heritage.In particular, they sought the Qatari bisht, especially when it gained worldwide exposure after Lionel Messi wore it at the moment of receiving the world cup trophy at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.Tourists also see the place as an excellent place to take good photos.Canadian Liza said that most tourists are keen to get introduced to the heritage of the country and the old ways of life.The handicraft market at Souq Waqif, she said, offers excellent experience for them in this regard.Liza said she highly enjoys visiting this place and has been very keen to include it in her list whenever she comes to Qatar.The weather is refreshing in Qatar at this time of the year, she pointed out, making it a good time to savour local dishes in the open air.Larry from the US said that seeing the craftsmen and artists at work during his visit to the center was a very good experience.He said that he could really appreciate the amount of professionalism, skill and efforts exerted by the artists in their work.Larry also praised the warm welcome in Qatar and generous hospitality of its people.Fellow American Camelia appreciated the welcoming spirit and hospitality in the country, where everybody is ready to help starting from the arrivals at the airport.She said that she has been keen to visit the centre to buy souvenirs and get further introduced to the different types of the Qatari bisht.A Swiss tourist said that she really enjoyed the warm Qatari winter season and that her visits to the various Qatari sites gave her a lot of knowledge about the region and its culture.She said that Qatar is an excellent family tourism destination.
