Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation general manager Prof Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti has asserted that the foundation has succeeded in entrenching the maritime heritage in Qatar. In a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA) at the venue of Senyar Festival on Sealine Beach, he said the 9th Edition of Senyar Festival is witnessing a high turnout from the masses that exceeded 60 teams and clubs, including over 700 Qatari participating teams, 64 teams from GCC states, and 61 residents.Prof al-Sulaiti said out that such a high turnout indicates that Katara has succeeded in entrenching the maritime heritage.Katara has consolidated this heritage for the new generations, he said, adding that the attendees of today are those who had already participated in the pearl-diving competitions for children during the past years, and they have grown to love this heritage, which demonstrates their demand for such type of festivals.Prof al-Sulaiti added that Katara has increased the festival's awards to QR2.2mn allocated for winners of the first top 15 ranks, stressing that the financial gain is not the goal of the festival, but rather to introduce the maritime heritage. He said that festivals such as those for falcons and the maritime heritage like the annual traditional dhow festival, as well as the presence of a museum of marine heritage in Katara, promote the maritime heritage.
