The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change had banned the entry of 27 cargoes during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 that did not comply with the standards and conditions of the Environment Protection Law no 30 for 2002 and Law no 31 for 2002 on Radiation Protection. Speaking to local Arabic daily 'Arrayah', engineer Hussein Hajji, from the Department of Radiation and Chemicals Protection, said that 1,886 cargoes of hazardous materials were released during this period after conducting the necessary inspections and examinations.While 924 cargoes came by sea through Hamad Port, 811 were through air cargo, and 151 by land through Abu Samara Border Post. Further, 69 cargoes were subject to further checks and examinations by the department at both the Air Cargo and Hamad Port. From these, 22 included radioactive substances and 16 radioactive apparatuses, and three radioactive leaks were spotted.The official pointed out that co-ordination was maintained between the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, and the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy and the General Authority of Customs throughout the the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to ease the safe entry of the substances and materials that pertain to the FIFA and comply with the set standards and conditions.
