Greenpeace activists dressed as bears and tigers stage a protest demanding that the government stop using coal shortage as an alleged reason to mine in forest areas, outside the Coal Ministry in New Delhi yesterday. “It’s now clear that corruption is the real reason behind the coal shortage, not slow environmental clearances. The government and the coal lobby can no longer use the power shortage as a pretext to destroy more forest areas for coal mining,” the protesters said. Police have opened a probe into five coal companies after raiding premises across the country over the alleged misallocation of lucrative mining rights
