A New Delhi court yesterday sent Sudheendra Kulkarni, a former aide of senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L K Advani, to jail in connection with the 2008 cash-for-votes scandal.Kulkarni appeared before Special Judge Sangita Dhingra Sehgal who sent him to Tihar jail.He had applied for interim bail, which was rejected.Speaking to reporters outside the Tis Hazari court complex before his appearance in the court, Kulkarni said he was a whistleblower and his attempt was to expose corruption.“The charge against me is false and politically motivated. My role in the entire matter was that of a whistle blower. “Along with my associates, three BJP MPs and Suhail Hindustani, I attempted to expose the purchase of MPs for securing victory in the confidence vote that the then government was seeking in the Lok Sabha (in July 2008),” Kularni told the reporters.He also said that he had “nothing to hide”. “I am not running away from anyone. I am ready to go to jail if exposing corruption is a crime,” he said.Meanwhile, the court yesterday reserved its order on Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh’s interim bail.The Rajya Sabha MP, who is an accused in the scandal, and is admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for a kidney related ailment, was granted the interim bail until yesterday.Medical reports submitted to the high court stated that the 55-year old, suffering from diabetes, underwent a renal transplant in September 2009 and intestinal surgery 10 years ago.Singh was put under medical observation on September 13 after he complained of ill-health.On July 22, 2008, three Bharatiya Janata party members of the Lok Sabha waved wads of currency notes inside the house ahead of the trust vote, alleging they were given the money to vote in favour of the Manmohan Singh government.
