DPA/JohannesburgThe Southern African Development Community (SADC) is demanding a meeting between the ousted president of Madagascar and the man who replaced him in a 2009 military-backed coup that left the island nation in a crisis.SADC “as a matter of urgency” called on Andry Rajoelina, the interim leader, to meet with Marc Ravalomanana, who remains in exile in South Africa, according to a communiqué yesterday. The 15 country regional body – which on Friday concluded a summit in Angola attended by heads of state and their representatives – has drawn out a roadmap which is meant to lead Madagascar out of the ongoing stalemate and create the conditions to hold free and fair elections. The roadmap also includes amnesty provisions.Ravalomanana, however, has been unable to return to the Indian Ocean island, throwing the plan into question.
