Organ donors in Qatar exceed 500,000

Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) revealed that the record of organ donors exceeded 500,000, which represents about 25 percent of the adult population in Qatar, while this year's organ transplant program achieved a historic achievement by performing the largest number of kidney transplants since its inception, in addition to conducting three operations of lung transplant in the first year of the lung transplant program.
The Director of Qatar Organ Donation Center (Hiba), member of the Committee of Experts on Organ Donation and Transplantation at the World Health Organization Dr. Riyad Fadel, said that the record of organ donation in Qatar includes more than 131 nationalities, which positively reflected on the rate of organ donation among all nationalities, as values of respect for Human rights, independence and fairness in making the State of Qatar a role model in ethical practices and best medical practices, which is greatly admired by the international transplant community.This ceremony coincides with the most successful year ever so far in the history of organ transplant and organ donation programs in the State of Qatar, where more kidney transplants than ever were performed at Hamad Medical Corporation, as well as three successful lung transplants during the first year of the lung transplant program.Organ transplants can contribute to saving patientstarget="_blank"'>For his part, the Acting Chief Medical Officer for Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) Dr. Abdullah Al-Ansari, said that the Corporation has worked tirelessly with the Qatar Center for Organ Transplantation to implement the principles of Doha Donation Accord (DDA), while citizens and residents continue to support Qatars unique, fair, and world-class organ donation and transplant programs.
