Katara - The Cultural Village is all aglow and decorated beautifully ahead of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to receive visitors from all over the globe and entertain and educate them with myriad events of various cultures in art, dance, music, painting, folklore and performing arts.Katara will provide a wide array of activities for visitors with events representing diverse cultures. As many as 51 main events will see 300 sub-activities regaling and immersing visitors in different tastes and expectations, reflecting Katara’s mission and constant endeavour to be a meeting place for different cultures and people.
Katara sports a colourful and vibrant look with flags of the nations competing in the World Cup adorning all its streets, corners and promenade. Katara has become one of the most sought after places in Qatar for people to click selfies and pictures and during the World Cup it will continue to be the souvenir place with the Katara Hills providing the picture perfect backdrop.The new installations over the hills and colourful signage and paintings add to the charm and ambience of the place, imparting more excitement for global football fans. A number of murals by Qatari and international artists on building facades and as part of the artistic project have been unveiled. Katara recently inaugurated a mural (Without Borders) by Brazilian artist Calvin Kubik on Building 48, the mural of Qatar’s Cuban friends on Building 15 by the Cuban artist Michel Lopez, and the mural “Birds Game” by Mexican artist Eva Bracamontes on Building 16.
Preparations are also in full swing for the annual Katara Traditional Dhow Festival, the 12th edition of which will run from November 19 to December 18, coinciding and celebrating the occasion of the FIFA World Cup.The organising committee of the festival is making grand arrangements for the annual event which showcases Qatar’s pearl-diving legacy and the rich fishing and maritime history - a cultural pride in the hearts of several Qatari generations which is preserved even today.Nine countries: Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Oman, Iraq, Yemen, India, Turkey and Tanzania will be featuring at this year’s Katara Traditional Dhow Festival.FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will be celebrated at the festival on all days with the raising of the flags of the 32 qualified teams. The flags will be hoisted on the heritage dhows which will then sail past the Doha Corniche to Qatar’s world famous Museum of Islamic Art (MIA).Katara will be abuzz with non-stop street and moving music shows and revelry until the Qatar National Day on December 18.
