Up to 4,000 students will take part in a novel initiative, 'Let's Light Up the Corniche', on November 20 evening to coincide with the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The students will carry lanterns created by them in what is being described as one of the largest recreational activities to be held on the Doha Corniche during the World Cup. About 3,000-4,000 male and female students from 60 public and private schools will join the event and carry the lanterns they have made, according to a report in the official Qatar News Agency. The Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MoEHE), in collaboration with the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy, has organised lantern-making training workshops in preparation for the event on November 20. Both public and private schools are participating in the workshops. This is one of the most important events that will be held in Qatar to welcome fans attending the World Cup and celebrate with them on this occasion. The initiative will help showcase the students' creations. The first day of the training workshops was attended by a team of artists from Qatar Museums and Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Qatar. They included Maryam al-Mohannadi, Fatima al-Nuaimi, Noura Al Khar’an, Amna al-Muftah and Hala al-Jaafari, who were trained by Jyllie Jackson, anAustralian specialising in the manufacture of lanterns. They will be supported by artists during the training workshops that are targeting teachers of visual arts, drawing and music from the participating schools.A video demonstrating how to make lanterns will be posted on the ministry's platforms, allowing the public to make their own lanterns to participate in the event. The MoEHE has invited parents to attend the Doha Corniche event on November 20 evening.
