Airshow adds thrill, colour to pre-World Cup festivities

The Amiri Air Force and Al Zaeem Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Attiya Air Academy carried out a joint airshow Saturday in the West Bay and Doha Corniche area, with the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) and the British Royal Air Force (RAF).In a press statement on the sidelines of the air show, Brigadier-General Mohamed Ali al-Hajri from the Armed Forces said that a number of Typhoon “Al Dhariyat” aircraft of the Amiri Air Force participated in the airshow, together with the joint Qatar-UK Typhoon Squadron (12 Squadron), the British Royal Air Force's aerobatic team Red Arrows, and the Royal Saudi Air Force's Saudi Falcons aerobatic team, in addition to the aerobatic team of the Al Zaeem Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Attiya Air Academy, the official Qatar News Agency reported.
Brigadier-General al-Hajri explained that one of the tasks of the joint Qatar-UK Typhoon Squadron is to secure the airspace during the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.Regarding the participation of the British Red Arrows and the Saudi Falcons in the airshow, the official said that it is an expression of the strength of mutual relations between the Amiri Air Force, Royal Saudi Air Force and British Royal Air Force.Brigadier-General al-Hajri pointed out that the airshow demonstrated the pilots’ skills and their strength of training.

A large crowd, made up of people of different ages and from various backgrounds, gathered to watch the airshow."It was wonderful to see aerobatic teams from different countries take part in the airshow," said a resident, who was accompanied by his two children.Children were particularly thrilled to see the stunts in the air."The airshow was great. Me and my sister loved it," said a young spectator.The airshow provided some thrilling and colourful moments, adding to the prevailing festive mood in the country ahead of the World Cup, which kicks off on November 20.
