New Ruwais veterinary quarantine facility opens

HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al-Subaie inaugurated the new Ruwais seaport quarantine facility near Ruwais Port in Al Shamal. It is considered one of the most important development projects for preserving livestock in the country. The project was implemented on an area of 30,000 sqm and includes an administrative building with an area of 547 sqm, which includes administrative offices, a veterinary clinic, a veterinary laboratory and an animal anatomy room to detect the causes of death, in addition to other facilities that include a cold room, a freezing room, stores with an area of 440 sqm, green areas and a prayer room.
The Ruwais veterinary quarantine project is located near Al Ruwais Port in Al Shamal, about 12km outside the customs campus of Al Ruwais Sea Port. The Director of Al Shamal Municipality Hamad Juma al-Mannai, stressed that the opening of Ruwais veterinary quarantine comes within the framework of Qatar's interest in developing Al Shamal regions and increasing co-operation between the Ministry of Municipality and the concerned authorities to secure and support food security policies.Al-Mannai noted that the Ruwais quarantine is the first line of defence for livestock from various epidemic and transboundary diseases. For his part, Eng Mohamed Badr al-Sada, CEO of Hassad, pointed out that such development projects are a major supporter and a major contributor to achieving food security and protecting livestock, and they come within the framework of continuous efforts and fruitful co-operation between the various authorities in the country, to achieve the strategic objectives of economic development.Regarding the opening of the new Ruwais veterinary quarantine facility, the Director of the Animal Resources Department at the Ministry of Municipality Abdulaziz al-Ziyara, said that this quarantine is the latest and most advanced in the region, and it is a distinctive addition to the veterinary quarantine system in Qatar. He added that it will contribute to increasing the carrying capacity of incoming and outgoing animal consignments coming from outside the country, in addition to opening broad horizons for transit trade in the export and import of live animal consignments.
