The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the works of the Logistics City Interchange. The announcement was made Sunday in the presence of HE the Minister of State and Qatar Free Zones Authority (QFZA) chairman Ahmad al-Sayed and Ashghal president Dr engineer Saad bin Ahmad al-Muhannadi.

Strategically located at the south entrance of G-Ring Road at the Free Zone, the Logistics City Interchange links east and west Free Zone directly to Hamad International Airport (HIA), G-Ring Road and surrounding roads such as Ras Bu Abboud Street, Airport Road, Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor and Al Wakra Road.

It serves various strategic and vital facilities such as Doha Metro, logistic companies supporting Free Zone and other important public institutions like business innovation park while facilitating access to World Cup fans village in Ras Abu Fontas as well as World Cup leisure activity areas in Ras Abu Fontas.The interchange assumes significance as it facilitates goods transportation from HIA and Free Zone to all areas both inside and outside Doha. It’s located on G-Ring Road that leads to southern areas, Industrial Area and Al Majd Road, as it also interchanges Ras Abu Aboud Street to Corniche and Doha Central.
Through the new interchange, companies located in Ras Abu Fontas Free Zone have unlimited access to services like air freight and facilitated customs clearance operations. The area includes light industrial units, serviced plots and office spaces, including a business and innovation complex.

Ras Abu Fontas Free Zone aims to provide services in emerging technology, aviation, business and light industries.HE al-Sayed extended his thanks to Ashghal for building the interchange which will provide a direct link between eastern and western QFZ Ras Abu Fontas and key facilities and roads in Doha and around across Qatar.
“QFZ has been established to offer for investors a competitive advantage and a stimulating atmosphere for universal businesses and services to enhance operation and capital for firms and Qatar’s position as a flourishing global market,” he said.Al-Muhannadi said that Ashghal’s infrastructure projects are ready to serve the guests visiting Qatar during the World Cup. “For years, Ashghal has worked diligently on maintaining the works day and night to achieve an integrated infrastructure network with international specifications. Concerted efforts were made by all entities, including some ministries to achieve excellent road networks, intersections and tunnels. These will become a legacy beyond the World Cup and we will continue to be proud of for years,” he said.
Projects Affairs director engineer Yousef al-Emadi said Ashghal built an integrated network of diverse roads and huge junctions such as the Logistics City Interchange, connecting with other major roads and facilities including the HIA and the Metro.QFZ Zones Development CEO engineer Ali al-Khalifa said the interchange will provide a direct link between Free Zone in Ras Abu Fontas and the connecting roads such as G-Ring Road, Ras Abu Aboud Street, Sabah Al Ahmad Corridor and vital facilities such as HIA while saving time and effort to transport various goods belonging to the logistic and investing companies running their operations at QFZ.

Ashghal's Highway Projects Department manager engineer Bader Darwish said the expressway network has achieved a qualitative surge for the traffic across Qatar, pointing out that the construction of a new interchange on G-Ring Road mainly serves the Free Zone which otherwise has no direct connection to the road.Project engineer Noora al-Zarraa said the two-level interchange includes three bridges and has three to four lanes in each direction in addition to four exits to accommodate approximately 10,000 vehicles per hour.
“Three tunnels were constructed to provide surface water drainage networks and treated sewage effluent pipelines for irrigation, in addition to the construction of 2 km service roads in both directions,” she noted.The Logistics City integrates with G-Ring Road to become the 9th interchange in the 22km long vital road. G-Ring Road also provides entrance to Industrial Area from the south side, and a direct link with HIA and connects it to Hamad Port, Mesaieed, Abu Samra Border and northern areas through its connection to Al Majd Road and a direct link to logistics village and to HIA.
