The importance of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's participation in the 31st Ordinary Arab Summit in Algeria has been highlighted in the run-up to the event that takes place on November 1 and 2.HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the Arab League, Salem Mubarak al-Shafi, underlined that the participation reflects the strong relationship between His Highness the Amir and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. This stems from His Highness's keenness to solidify and consolidate the Qatar-Algeria relations at all levels and the willingness of the leaders of the two countries to contribute to the success of the Arab summit and promote the joint Arab action and Arab solidarity in countering challenges.Similarly, Algerian Centre for Economic Foresight, Investment Development and Entrepreneurship president Akram Zidi said the participation of His Highness the Amir in the summit, at the invitation of his brother, Algerian President Tebboune, will give the summit great momentum and influence, affirming His Highness's keenness to boost joint Arab action and Arab solidarity. He stressed that Qatar represents a role model in developing its economy, diversifying its income, and through its ability to adapt and resist successive global economic crises. In exclusive statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE al-Shafi pointed out that Qatar remains at the forefront of any effort or initiative dedicated to uniting the Arab ranks, alleviating the suffering of the vulnerable people, including effective and constructive discussion on the issues that concern the region. He hailed the co-operation and fraternal relationship that links Qatar with Algeria at the official and popular levels and extended his sincere thanks and appreciation to Algeria's leadership, government and people for the generous hospitality and good reception, in addition to the enormous efforts made - and are still being made - for the success of the summit.Further, he congratulated the leadership, government and people of Algeria on the 58th anniversary of the liberation revolution that was a beacon and model for countries in regaining their freedom and independence. With regard to the key issues for Arab leaders at the summit, HE al-Shafi said the region is undergoing a momentous political period, which is reflected in the agenda that contains numerous vital topics. He explained that there are multiple political, economic and social files incorporated into the summit agenda, including permanent issues. The Palestinian cause is at the forefront along with the latest developments in the occupied territories, the latest developments in Libya, Syria, Iraq, Yemen and Sudan, as well as other files pertaining to Arab economic co-operation and trade exchange, the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (Gafta) and Arab Customs Union.HE the Permanent Representative hailed the Palestinian reconciliation deal that was recently signed under the patronage of Algeria, adding that such a development is not new for Algeria, which is always committed to supporting the brothers in Palestine and espousing their cause. The independence of the Palestinian state was proclaimed at the Arab Summit hosted by Algeria in 1988.The official added that he anticipates further Arab support for the Palestine cause at the upcoming summit, including the right of the Palestinian people to establish their independent and sovereign state within the June 4, 1967, borders with Jerusalem as its capital.Regarding Arab League reform, he said such a topic is not new and, "of course, there are resolutions issued by the Council of Arab League concerning the overhaul of the League, along with the task forces that have been systematically operating in this direction for a while".As for taking advantage of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 that will be hosted by Qatar to present an honourable image of the Arab region, he said Qatar is anticipating an unprecedented sporting event by hosting the World Cup, asserting that the tournament's success is per se a success for all Arabs, especially as it is the first time the tournament is being held in an Arab and Islamic country.Sport generally unites all people, despite diverse cultures, affiliations and territories, and it is a rare humanitarian opportunity to show unity, happiness and celebration, especially at a time the world is suffering from uncertainty and multiple challenges, he said, adding that that the tournament represents a real opportunity to have a closer look into the beauty of the Arab culture and meet those who represent and embody this culture.HE al-Shafi noted that the Arab welcome to Qatar's hosting of the World Cup exists at the official and popular levels, adding that the event concerns the Arab region and the whole world.
