Arab parliaments and IPU sign MoU

The Association of Secretaries General of Arab Parliaments and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for co-operation, co-ordination and direct communication. The MoU was signed on the sidelines of the 145th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, held in Kigali, Rwanda, which concluded on Friday. HE the Secretary-General of the Shura Council and Chairman of the Association of Secretaries-General of Arab Parliaments, Dr Ahmed bin Nasser Ibrahim al-Fadala, stressed that the MoU aims to activate the association's role at the international level, to enhance the exchange of experiences, and to facilitate the work of Arab parliaments within the corridors of the IPU.He said that this signing came as a continuation of the negotiations that started between the two sides on the sidelines of the 144th Assembly of the IPU, which was held in March this year on the Indonesian island of Bali.The Association of Secretaries-General of the Arab Parliaments held a meeting yesterday, headed by HE Dr al-Fadala, to discuss the request of the Association to join the Union as an observer member.
