Amir's visit to open new areas of co-operation, says Turkish envoy

Turkiye’s ambassador to Qatar Dr Mehmet Mustafa Goksu has stressed that His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani's visit to his country, within the framework of the 8th meeting of the Qatari-Turkish Supreme Strategic Committee, constitutes an important opportunity to strengthen the relations between Turkiye and Qatar and find more areas of co-operation.In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), the ambassador said that the His Highness the Amir's meeting with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan comes in light of the unique and brotherly Turkish-Qatari relations, as well as the great ambitions and common destiny.His Highness the Amir and Erdogan will hold a bilateral summit ahead of the meetings of the committee in Istanbul, Dr Goksu added.The envoy pointed out that the committee meeting is an occasion the two sides await annually to discuss what have been achieved in all issues between the two countries.He also revealed Qatar and Turkiye will sign about 10 new agreements in the field of defence, culture, media, joint exercises and others.The ambassador underlined that Qatar and Turkiye share a common destiny, and shares views on many regional and international issues of interest for the two countries.Dr Goksu noted that His Highness the Amir's visit to his country comes in light of regional and international developments, and making it an important visit to co-ordinate Turkish and Qatari stances on issues.He said that in addition to defence co-operation, the two countries attach special importance to security relations, especially regarding securing the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, the most prominent international sporting event in the history of the Gulf and the Middle East.
