MoPH celebrates 8th Qatar Patient Safety Week

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), in co-operation with a number of its partners, organised a variety of events and activities during the 8th Qatar Patient Safety Week, held under the theme *Medication without harm.The ministry's building as well as many healthcare institutions and national monuments were lit in orange to mark the week.This symbolic initiative represents the pivotal role of patient safety in achieving universal healthcare coverage and acknowledging the importance of global drug safety practices.Lectures and discussion seminars were also held in various places within healthcare and educational institutions, while the MoPH prepared a set of awareness messages and videos related to drug safety targeting the public and health sector workers, which were displayed within healthcare institutions and on various social media platforms.Some healthcare institutions organised poster competitions on quality improvement and patient safety.The best posters were honoured to encourage healthcare practitioners to innovate, develop and improve.
Pavilions on matching medicines were also organised in a number of governmental, semi-governmental, and private hospitals, in addition to implementing awareness campaigns for the public in co-operation with a number of public and private agencies.The celebration of the Qatar Patient Safety Week represents an opportunity to promote and spread a culture of patient safety through dialogue with decision-makers in all health fields, to develop the necessary systems and laws to raise the level of care, raise awareness on patient safety, encourage communication between decision-makers, healthcare providers and patients, and exchange information experiences and knowledge about the best practices in the field of patient safety.Additionally, it highlights the challenges facing the activation of national initiatives in this field, finding and developing appropriate solutions through co-operation between the public and private sectors, and creating a forum for dialogue between patients and healthcare providers, enhancing patient participation in building a safe healthcare system. – QNA
