Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS), in co-ordination with the National Human Rights Committee (NHRC), has distributed hundreds of food parcels comprising daily commodities among workers in the Doha Industrial Area on the occasion of the International Day of Charity which falls on Sept 5 annually. This humanitarian initiative comes as part of the "One Hand" Programme initiated by the QRCS' Volunteering and Local Development Sector in a bid to mitigate the workers' sufferings and to contribute to improving their living conditions, and in appreciation for their efforts exerted to build the society and to achieve its renaissance. In this context, Executive Director of the QRCS' Volunteering and Local Development Sector Mona al-Sulaiti said the interest in this international occasion stems from the responsibility towards workers as a priority, indicating that QRCS' humanitarian projects seek to meet the workers' needs and to develop their general capabilities. She added that these projects reflect the QRCS' commitment to providing a safe work environment through required efforts, plans and programmes to prepare and respond to crises, and to entrench the principles of charitable activities in society.President of the Societal Development Department at the Volunteering and Local Development Sector Nawra Eissa al-Fadala said the QRCS took the move to enhance societal bonds and to contribute to creating a network of more resilient and across-the-board humanitarian services, as well as to boost the spirit of social consolidation, and to encourage people to help others through volunteering and donations.Director of NHRC's Financial and Administrative Affairs Department Hamad al-Marzouqi affirmed the initiative came within the humanitarian communication with workers, and in appreciation for their contribution to the country's renaissance with their expertise.Al-Marzouqi noted that such events came as part of plans to further integrate workers within the society, as individuals and institutions, and stressed NHRC's plans for continued social communication to reach a consolidated model where all segments of society enjoy their rights and adhere to their duties. He hailed the co-operation with the QRCS as a distinguished partner in rights and humanitarian initiatives at the national, regional and international levels, and added that the recently signed bilateral framework memorandum of understanding aims to bolster joint co-operation in all fields of human rights.
