Snoonu, Qatar’s fastest-growing delivery app, has introduced its sustainability initiative which aims to achieve carbon neutrality by the end of 2023. The programme includes campaigns that span over all areas of the business.
Snoonu has been performing tests with Kia electric vehicles for their operation, in collaboration with Al Attiya Group. Hamad al-Hajri, Snoonu’s CEO comments: “Changing the way we operate our business is crucial to see a real impact on our carbon footprint, so reducing emissions through our fleet will make a difference in the future. Though delivering with electrical vehicles brings its own set of challenges, it is a necessary step towards our zero-emission goal.” Aligning with Qatar’s 2030 vision, Snoonu hopes that this mode of delivery will take on and plans to gradually switch out gasoline vehicles from its fleet, along with charging infrastructure becoming more available in Qatar.Snoonu also launched ‘Go Green’ - a new in-app category which highlights merchants that follow sustainable practices within their business. The category features brands that are sustainability advocates: from using locally sourced ingredients, using biodegradable consumables, as well as segregating their waste. This is coupled with Snoonu’s pledge to help all their merchants switch away from plastic and use alternative materials while delivering to customers, at the same time, urging partners to switch to paperless contracts. Additionally, Snoomart, Snoonu’s Q-Commerce grocery platform, is shifting to a more sustainable route for their packaging through the use of biodegradable bags. In terms of internal initiatives, Snoonu employees have become more plastic-conscious. Some of these practices include bringing their own reusable bottles and substantially reducing paper consumption in the office for instance. CEO al-Hajri has invited other companies to join this initiative and explained: "By pledging to reduce our environmental impact we hope to foster change not only within Snoonu, but to inspire other companies to fundamentally transform the way they operate."
