Defending champs Sailiya drawn with Al Sadd, Al Wakrah

Al Sailiya, who are bidding for hat-trick of titles, will face Al Sadd and in-form Al Wakrah in the group stage of the Ooredoo Cup, the draw ceremony of which was held at the Al Bidda Tower on Thursday. Ahmed Abdullah al-Sayed, Head of Football Operations at the Qatar Stars League (QSL) attended the draw ceremony, which saw defending champions Sailiya, Sadd, Wakrah, Umm Salal, Al Ahli and Qatar SC being drawn in Group A. The Group B includes Al Duhail, Al Arabi, Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan, Al Shamal, Al Markhiya. Tournament’s title sponsor Ooredoo’s representatives Nasser al-Khaiat, Manager of Business Campaigns and Hassan al-Ali (Manager of Creative Studio) also attended the draw ceremony. The QSL said the tournament schedule will be released later.In March, Al Sailiya pulled off a thrilling 5-4 victory over Al Wakrah in extra-time to retain the Ooredoo Cup title at the Sheikh Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium. The 2022-2023 edition will also mark the return of Al Sadd and Al Duhail, who skipped the previous event due to Qatar players’ commitment with the national team.
