QCDC initiative offers students opportunity for choosing career

Qatar Career Development Centre (QCDC), a member of Qatar Foundation, has opened registration for the fourth edition of its flagship ‘My Career – My Future’ programme – an initiative that introduces high school students to real work environments in several industries across Qatar. The programme, taking place physically from June 26-30, will see students gaining first-hand insights into jobs at organisations of their choice, allowing them to identify the professions that best match their interests and skills. The deadline to apply closes on June 20.
‘My Career – My Future,’ to be held in Arabic and will cover numerous disciplines including aviation, medicine, veterinary medicine, media, filmmaking, event management, tourism, agricultural engineering, banking, transportation and shipping, business management, social work, and library management. Shaheen Hamad al-Sulaiti, senior career programmes and services officer, QCDC, said: “Our aim is to incentivise creativity, enlighten youth, and empower them to make the right academic and career choices.” On the first day, participating students will meet representatives from various organisations, and will join the organisation they chose over the following days to learn about professions in this organisation and the extent to which they match their skills and potentials. These organisations include Qatar Airways, Hamad Medical Corporation, Equine Veterinary Medical Centre, Al Kass Sports Channels, Doha Film Institute, Qatar National Convention Centre, Katara Cultural Village, Quranic Botanic Garden, Commercial Bank, QTerminals, Social Development Centre – Nama, Qatar University and Qatar National Library. The last day of the programme will bring them together with representatives of various universities to discuss the academic programmes and majors they offer, the application process, and admission requirements. Moreover, participating students will be offered a free licence to use QCDC’s online Career Advising System, the most comprehensive career planning system in Qatar and the region, to help them identify their most appropriate academic and career options using psychometric and personality assessment tools. They will also have the chance to book a free virtual career advising session to discuss the results of the assessments and seek advice from a QCDC’s professional career expert.All students who successfully complete the programme will be awarded participation certificates.
