Georgia, Qatar ties historical, positive

Ambassador of Georgia to Qatar Nikoloz Revazishvili described the relations between his country and Qatar as very positive, historical and constantly evolving, and said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Georgia and Qatar have been steadily developing bilateral co-operation ties in the fields of economy, culture, trade, security co-operation, tourism and agriculture, sports, diplomacy and other fields of co-operation, which formed the basis for strengthening and deepening these relations.
In statements to Qatar News Agency (QNA), the envoy said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations, Georgia and Qatar maintain very positive dynamics of bilateral ties. Bilateral relations and co-operation has been steadily developed in the fields of economy, culture, trade, security, education, tourism and etc. The geographical proximity of our regions naturally contributes to the development and deepening of many aspects of our relationship. He added: "Historically close ties between Georgia and the Arab world, cultural kinship and friendship between our nations are forming the grounds for further deepening of mutually beneficial relations. Two countries enjoy co-operation in the various sectors, such as economy, culture, trade, security, education, tourism and etc. During the last years, several high-level visits took place from both sides and more than 15 agreements and MoUs were signed in the fields of economy, agriculture, justice, culture, education, science, diplomacy, tourism, sports and other. Recently two important documents have been signed forming the legal basis for further co-operation in the field of general education, higher education and scientific research as well as for collaboration in sphere of training of diplomats between our two countries."The envoy pointed out: "Throughout its history and especially during the last decades, Qatar has showed its success with the incredible results achieved in overall economic, political and societal development. Those achievements of course are attributed to wise leadership of His Highness the Amir of Qatar, Government of Qatar as well as Qatari people, whose support towards progress and development remains robust and unwavering. Thanks to those efforts and achievements, today the State of Qatar plays an important role not only in the Gulf, but also in the wider region and internationally."On the coronavirus pandemic, Ambassador Revazishvili said: "Last year, the whole world faced truly unprecedented challenge from pandemic, which left no one unaffected. The pandemic continues to be one of the main challenges for the peoples and governments around the globe. The strategy and approach of Qatar towards the crisis proved to be successful and one of the most effective in the world. From the onset of the coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, the leader of the country, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani provided an effective vision and mission that allowed for a practical strategy of handling the crisis. The State of Qatar adopted a set of flexible proactive measures to prevent the spread of the virus, accompanied by financial stimulus policies and support packages for the affected sectors. Along with prominent legislations regulating the investment of non-Qatari capital in economic activities, Qatar has taken important steps to diversify its economy strongly contributing to dealing with the economic crises and challenges, including investment in the important sectors, such as health and technology, development of free zones, etc. It has to be mentioned that as a result of extensive efforts taken by the Government, Qatar has shown resilience and emerged stronger from the pandemic. The economic indicators confirm that the measure taken by the Government of Qatar have reflected positively at various economic levels proving the success of the country in recovering from the impact of the pandemic." Regarding the World Cup Qatar 2022, Ambassador Revazishvili stressed: "Georgia hails the success of the country in preparing the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. The necessary preparations for hosting the upcoming Qatar World Cup FIFA 2022 has been accomplished and the country is highly committed to deliver a successful 2022 World Cup event. Qatar has successfully and safely organized several major championships during the pandemic, including the Arab Cup which represents a rehearsal for FIFA World Cup 2022. I am confident that the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 will be held in the same successful manner that would be the pride of the world and the region."To conclude, the envoy said: "On behalf of the Georgian Government and Georgian people I would like to congratulate and wish Qatar Happy National Day! I would like to extend sincere National Day congratulations to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, to His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, to the Government and people of Qatar! On this very special day, I wish Qatar peace, well-being and prosperity."
