The State of Qatar called on the international community to continue mobilizing financial and technical resources and fully fund the humanitarian response plan, thus contributing to ensuring a decent life for the Afghan people.
This came in a statement by the State of Qatar, delivered by Ms. Jawhara bint Abdulaziz Al Suwaidi, Deputy Permanent Representative of the Permanent Mission of the State of Qatar to Geneva, during her participation in the interactive dialogue with the Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Afghanistan, within the framework of the fifty-ninth session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.
Al-Suwaidi affirmed Qatar's continued commitment as an effective international partner, noting that through its mediation efforts and by hosting the meetings of the Special Envoys for Afghanistan under the auspices of the United Nations, Qatar has been able to strengthen international consensus on several important issues and continue to provide humanitarian and development support to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Afghan people.
She noted the State of Qatar's commitment to including human rights issues in its discussions with Afghan parties, particularly supporting and enhancing Afghan women's participation in the peacemaking and peacebuilding process, ensuring their right to education and equal employment opportunities, and ensuring the protection of the rights of all components of the Afghan people.
She noted that the Afghan people have suffered for decades from numerous conflicts, natural disasters, and terrorism, noting that Afghanistan currently faces numerous humanitarian, social, political, security, and economic challenges, which in turn impact the promotion and protection of human rights.
Al-Suwaidi emphasized that addressing these challenges requires greater efforts to rebuild Afghan institutions, ensure the Afghan people continue to receive humanitarian and development assistance, and maintain dialogue and communication with all Afghan parties to reach solutions that achieve greater stability and growth.
