Qatar Museums lines up host of events, activities for August

Qatar Museums has launched several events and activities catering to a wide array of interests and artistic passions, to be hosted across its cultural institutions throughout August.The National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ) will organise "Dugongs Tales Storytelling and Art Workshop" on August 7.Children will enjoy listening to different stories about dugongs and the threats that they face to encourage them to take an active role in protecting this animal.They will then do a variety of fun artistic and educational activities.On August 17 and 24, the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) will organise "Observational Studies with a Twist- Introduction to Abstract Art". This fun, fast-paced workshop will teach children aged 8 to 11 how to draw and paint abstract art.MIA will also organise "Wood Workshop" on August 17.Children aged 8 to 11 are invited to learn about the different properties of wood, see examples from the MIA collection and then make their very own wooden souvenir.On August 14, 21, and September 4, MIA will organise "Epic Patterns of Central Asia with Laurelie Rae". This online programme will focus on the patterns, colours and textures from Central Asia in MIA's Collection, exploring the history of the Timurid dynasty and retracing their steps through the patterns they have left behind.On August 23, MIA will organise "Geometry for adults" workshop where participants will be introduced to the concept of geometry in Islamic art, inspired by MIA's collection, and will learn the basics of geometry and how to create a pattern using a net of interlocking circles made with a compass and a ruler.
