Qatar resident's short film wins nomination for Cannes Festival

The short has already won an award at Calcutta International Cult Film Festival 2021 and made the official selection at the Berlin International Film Festival 2021.
A short film produced by Qatar resident Gopakumar G Nair (Gopan) has been nominated in the Cannes World Film Festival 2021.
Dog Brothers, written and directed by Viswan, is nominated in the Best First Time Filmmaker Short category.Gopan, a senior cameraman with Qatar Television since 2004, has produced his debut film under the banner of Gr8 AV Productions. The short has already won an award at Calcutta International Cult Film Festival 2021 and made the official selection at the Berlin International Film Festival 2021.The key roles are portrayed by a group of children from Thiruvilvamala village in Kerala's Palakkad district. The film, which revolves around the friendship between two brothers and two pups, dwells on the true story of the murder of a tribal youth Madhu some years ago. The incident had sent ripples through the social fabric of the southern Indian state. Madhu, accused of stealing food, was lynched by a mob. The film refers to the politics of hunger and poverty. The other films selected to the final round in the category at Cannes are from the UK and the US. Film actor Prathapan K S and folk singer Vasantha Pazhayannur also have acting roles. Music is by Sunil Kumar P K, cinematography and editing by Vijesh Kappara and sound design by Ganesh Marar."I wish to produce more such films which convey powerful social messages," Gopan told Gulf Times.
