QU among world’s top universities in 13 subjects

Qatar University (QU) has been recognised by QS Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings in 13 different subjects. QU’s best performance is in Computer Science & Information Systems, Engineering - Chemical, and Accounting & Finance. QU president, Dr Hassan al-Derham said, “We are proud to announce that Qatar University has been named as one of the world’s top universities in 13 different subjects. It is also a testament to our unwavering dedication to our strategic direction towards excellence in teaching and research and providing the best possible education to our students.” It is worth noting that QU improved a staggering 84 places in Engineering and Technology globally, and now is placed among the top seven programmes in the Arab world. In Social Sciences and Management, QU improved 70 places. The Environmental Science and Education programmes are both new entries in the QS rankings and are now both placed among the four best in the Arab world.In Citations per Paper, Engineering - Electrical & Electronic is the subject in which QU earned the highest score (94.7).Jack Moran, QS spokesperson commented on the achievement saying, “The latest edition of the QS World University Rankings by Subject indicates that Qatar University continues to make outstanding progress on the regional and global stage. With all but one of its previously-ranked programmes improving their year-on-year positions, and with a number of departments entering the rankings for the first time, the latest results of our independent performance evaluation shine a light on the rapidly-rising research impact, academic standing, and employability outcomes being achieved by its academic faculty.”“All of the signs we observe this year suggest that a number of Qatar University’s programmes may find themselves among the global top-200 in future editions,” he added.In 2017, QU released a five-year strategy for 2018-2022, which mapped out the routes to achieving continuing performance excellence and builds on key areas of education, research, institution and engagement, while taking into consideration the plans and aspirations of Qatar National Vision 2030.Recently QU has boasted an ambitious research roadmap fielding national development priorities, and a number of significant research successes with global significance. QU maintains a close relationship between the public and private sector that has launched a number of collaborative agreements, which greatly benefit the institution.The rankings, compiled by global higher education analysts, QS Quacquarelli Symonds, provide authoritative comparative analysis on the performance of 14,435 individual university programmes, taken by students at 1,452 universities which can be found in 86 locations across the world, across 51 academic disciplines and five broad faculty areas.
